The Coming War on General Computing

12/29/11

Here we have Cory Doctorow from BoingBoing giving a speech on the political war against general computing. What does that actually mean? Well, in simple terms, he is referring to the "securing" of content from music/movie/software companies so that computers are prevented from manipulating them in ways those same music/movie/software companies don't want you to. Examples of this would be - not being able to fast forward during a commercial or during that stupid FBI warning or playing music purchase for an IPhone on another mp3 player.

In more complex terms (and now we are gonna get Computer Science-y) General Computers are devices that are Universal Turing Machines. UTMs are essentially capable of performing any computer algoritm (you desktop computer and smartphone are examples). Now, some UTMs will do it very slowly. For example, the first computer ever created, ENIAC, is hypothetically capable of performing the algorithms of today's fastest computers...it would just take until the end of time to do so. What the copyright trolls are doing is attempting to forbid these general computers from doing everything they are capable of doing.

And yes...that is a bad thing.

New study appears to have found the culprits behind the Great Recession

12/22/11
Lax Regulation is coming to get you!

Whoopsie! Regulations created to prevent another Great Depression were repealed right before the housing market crash. The "Uptick Rule" was created after the Great Depression to outlaw certain kinds of destructive short selling that is essentially market manipulation. In July of 2007, the rule was repealed because the SEC thought it was just a silly rule that had no relationship to the Great Drepression. In November of 2011, a group of unknown investors performed a "Bear Raid" on Citigroup in which a group of people short sell a stock in a coordinated fashion that would have violated the rule a few months earlier. That grouped pocketed about $600 million while Citigroup was killed and the financial system spiraled the world economy into the Great Recession.

The SEC asked for comments on the re-institution of the rule in 2009 but really hasn't done shit about it. Apparently, Hedge Fund managers hold just a little more sway over the SEC than the public.

What should we expect from an organization that completely missed the Bernie Madoff Ponzi Scheme?

If you have more than *SEVEN* days worth of groceries in your house...you MIGHT be a terrorist...

12/07/11

Jeff Foxworthy has nothing on the Department of Justice's indicators of a terrorist. Which is not that big of a deal except Congress is trying to pass a law that says you can be put in jail for life if they SUSPECT you of being a terrorist - No trial necessary!

It is also related to Jeff Foxworthy (well...rednecks) because the law also repeals the rules prohibiting our warfighters from having sex with animals.

No felony charges for woman who gave the TSA a taste of their own medicine

07/21/11
ma-HER!

Yukari Miyamae was recently accosted at a TSA checkpoint and was selected for molesting enhanced freedom screening where the TSA agent gropes invasively pats down your privates. For reasons that haven't been made perfectly clear, she decided to turn the tables on her molester and honked the TSA agent's boob. She was arrested but the most serious felony charges against her have been dropped.

Above is an artist's rendition of what the incident looked like at the airport.

Whoops. TSA Bodyscan workers at Logan Airport may be part of a Cancer Cluster

06/29/11
Try not to worry about the geiger counter sounds when you go through TSA security
Ruh Roh. It looks like may be cancer clusters among TSA workers that work NEAR the supposedly safe bodyscanners...and the TSA is not cooperating with them according the documents released under the Freedom of Information Act.

"One document set reveals that even after TSA employees identified cancer clusters possibly linked to radiation exposure, the agency failed to issue employees dosimeters - safety devices that could assess the level of radiation exposure."

Oh yeah...and the TSA lied mischaracterized the work of the NIST by stating the scanners were tested safe. And everone rolls their eyes when I say I won't let Aurora fly/be scanned until the TSA fixes their shit...

The TSA admits to UNDER-estimating the amount of radiation their X-rays do by a factor of 10

03/16/11
Not only is it child porn, it will give you cancer

I WAS RIGHT! While the TSA's original estimates on what the see-through-your-clothes X-Ray machines emitted were benign, they refused to release any safety information about the scanners. Well, now they have been forced to admit their own testing was flawed.

Father jailed for months based on the new wave version of the Ouija board

01/13/11
null
Based on the bullshit concept of "Facilitated Communications," Julian Wendrow was falsely charged with the rape of his 13-year old autistic daughter who has the mind of a 2 year old. "Facilitated Communications" is where a school aid guides the hand of a retard and makes words on a keyboard. In this case the school aid used "Facilitated Communications" with the daughter to write out that the father had been raping her since she was 7 years old while the mom watched. Based on that evidence, the police charged and imprisoned Julian Wendrow for 80 days. During that time, they couldn't find a single expert that would support the validity "Facilitated Communications" but the DA's office chose to pursue the charges anyway. The case fell apart when the daughter couldn't answer simple questions like "what color is your sweater" when the school aid was unable to hear the question.

While the Police department settled with the Wendrows for $1.8 million, the lawsuit continues against the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office, the Walled Lake Consolidated Schools and the Michigan Department of Human Services.

Cursing like a sailor cost a sailor his job

01/05/11
These are the voyages of the starship "Politically Correct"

One of the Navy's elite, Captain Owen Honors, was relieved of command because of his participation in a video in which he cursed. The video was made to entertain the crew to build morale.

You know what? This is a bunch of PC BULLSHIT. Sailors curse. Sailors make jokes. This guy is one of the *11* top Captains in the Navy and because of political pressure, he is being embarrassed by losing his command. I have no doubt that Admiral Harvey was ordered to make that statement. I really hope that the same pressure doesn't kill his career. Glenn Close is already whining that she was parodied in the video. WAAAAaaaaaa. It is the fucking Navy! If you agree with me, Like this facebook group in support of the Captain.

That said, please watch this recruitment video:
